HRSC0344It's February, and we can't let the  month go by without  mentioning its radiant birthstone, the amethyst. Amethysts are actually a form of quartz, and come in colors ranging from an intensely rich, deep purple through lighter shades of lavender, blues, and very, very occasionally, greens.

What color of amethyst is best? Well, according to the GIA, the Gemological Institute of America, the most preferred shade of amethyst is an intense reddish to dark purple, but we've found that the best shade of amethyst is the one you like best.

There are many legends and myths associated with the amethyst. People used to believe that wearing amethysts would prevent you from getting drunk, no matter how many glasses of wine you'd enjoyed.  Sadly, it appears that this is not true at all - but it's a great story to tell at parties, especially when you're wearing this great ring:

The 14K Gold Horse Heads Ring is one of our best sellers. It's available with all kinds of gemstones, including, of course, amethyst. In the pictured version, we've got an emerald-cut 2 carat amethyst in a lovely light purple; it's surrounded by .50 cwt of pave set diamonds. A finely detailed horse head is featured on either side of the stone. It's a gorgeous ring, available in either 14K yellow or white gold - choose your favorite.

One of the best things about this gold horse ring is how beautifully it works as an engagement ring for the horsewoman. Colored gemstones, including colored diamonds, are becoming more and more popular elements of bridal jewelry - or have the ring set with a white sapphire or diamond for a more traditional look.

We have this ring made right here in the USA by our master craftsman. You can be assured that you're getting a beautiful, finely made ring that you'll love wearing. And of course, Amethysts rock!
